The Training Program on Internationalization Strategies aims to transform higher education from a global perspective

Internationalization has established itself as one of the main challenges and, at the same time, one of the greatest opportunities for institutions of higher education. In a context characterized by digital transformation, the global circulation of knowledge, cooperation among countries, and the growing need to build more inclusive and sustainable societies, universities are called upon to strengthen their capacity for dialogue, coordination, and advocacy at the national, regional, and international levels.

In response to this reality, the Training Program on Internationalization Strategies (TPIE) is presented as a training initiative aimed at strengthening the institutional capacities necessary to understand, plan, implement, and consolidate internationalization processes in higher education. It seeks to provide tools so that institutions recognize internationalization as a strategic component of their development and not merely as a set of isolated activities.

Traditionally, internationalization has been associated primarily with the academic mobility of students, faculty, and researchers. However, today’s reality demands a broader and more inclusive vision. Internationalizing an institution involves incorporating a global and intercultural perspective into its processes of education, research, community engagement, management, and relations with the surrounding community. It also means creating conditions for knowledge to engage with different contexts, cultures, forms of knowledge, and social needs.

The TPIE proposes precisely this cross-cutting and transformative understanding of internationalization. Through a systematic training experience, participants will be able to delve deeper into the conceptual, methodological, and operational foundations that guide this process, as well as identify tools for designing strategies aligned with the priorities, capacities, and specific characteristics of their institutions.

The program aims to foster a critical understanding of the contemporary international context. Today, institutions of higher education must respond to challenges such as rapid technological transformation, gaps in access to knowledge, the need for multilateral cooperation, environmental sustainability, respect for human rights, and the development of a global citizenship committed to solving common problems. In the face of these challenges, internationalization can serve as a pathway to broaden horizons, strengthen partnerships, and generate collaborative responses.

The program also recognizes that this process must be guided by principles of equity, inclusion, and respect for diversity. Therefore, it incorporates an intercultural perspective, global citizenship, and epistemic justice as guiding principles. This involves valuing the diversity of knowledge, experiences, and institutional trajectories, as well as promoting more horizontal, reciprocal, and context-appropriate cooperative relationships across different regions.

The educational proposal integrates the academic, research, administrative, and outreach dimensions, based on the understanding that internationalization must have a comprehensive impact on the university’s core functions. From this perspective, participants are invited to reflect on incorporating global perspectives into curricula, developing collaborative research projects, participating in knowledge networks, strengthening institutional capacities, and building relationships with national and international stakeholders.

The TPIE is aimed specifically at academic teams, university administrators, heads of international relations offices, faculty members, researchers, managers, and other stakeholders committed to the global reach of their institutions.

The program’s methodology is based on active, participatory, and reflective learning. Participants will not only review up-to-date theoretical frameworks but will also analyze case studies, exchange experiences, identify best practices, and apply strategic planning tools. The training addresses the specific challenges faced by each institution and facilitates the development of proposals tailored to their realities.

Peer dialogue and collaborative learning play a central role. The opportunity to share experiences across institutions, regions, and countries enriches reflection, helps identify common challenges, and opens new opportunities for cooperation. Thus, the program aims to strengthen communities of practice that foster the exchange of knowledge and collaboration beyond the training setting.

Training in internationalization strategies is, in essence, preparing to expand the possibilities of higher education. It means recognizing that universities play a decisive role in building societies capable of understanding and addressing global challenges, without losing sight of their local contexts, their identities, and their responsibilities toward the development of their communities.

We invite institutions and their teams to strengthen their capacities, renew their perspectives, and develop approaches that make internationalization a meaningful, inclusive, and sustainable process.
