Japan’s Ichinoseki Unveils AI-Powered Terminal
Created by EasyDialog G.K., a leader in generative AI chatbot technology, the terminal showcases a female avatar on-screen that interacts with visitors, offering guidance and support with paperwork.
Users can conveniently scan their driver’s license or ID card, allowing the system to automatically populate personal information.
City officials explained that the new AI solution was introduced because employees frequently lack the time to fully support every visitor.
Although Ichinoseki intends to replace traditional staffed counters with AI terminals eventually, officials acknowledge that helping elderly residents unfamiliar with digital tools remains a significant hurdle.
“Just as self-checkouts have become prevalent in public lives, we will do what we can to let citizens get used to the AI counter and make it widespread,” said Masaharu Sugawara, who manages the city’s digital transformation initiatives.
According to EasyDialog, the device integrates with over 7,000 municipal web pages and operates as “a fully integrated system that not only provides information but also takes real-world action: from facial recognition and ID scanning to automated form processing.”
